How to Baby Proof Your Home

Having a Baby is one of the most precious times of your life. Keeping your Baby Safe can be one of the most stressful times of your life. As your baby gets more active, keeping the little one safe becomes more challenging. Baby Proof your house and be prepared by baby proofing the family kitchen, the living room, the baby nursery, the bathrooms, and other areas your baby might explore.

We as parents worry about many dangers to our children such as abduction and violence. Some of the Biggest dangers to our children are right in our own homes! Experts say that children between the ages of 1 and 4 are more likely to be killed or injured by fire, burns, drowning, choking, poisoning, or falls than by a stranger’s violence.

Each year about 2.5 million children are killed or injured by dangers in their own home according to Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). This fact alone is a reason why making sure your baby is safe at home is so very important.

Here are some helpful hints:

Before the baby arrives

- Install a Carbon Monoxide (Co) detector and check the batteries twice a year

- Keep a fire extinguisher on hand and install smoke detectors

- Establish a First Aid Kit and Poison Control Kit

Before your Baby Crawls

- Fill the Tub only 2-3 inches, just enough to cover the baby’s legs

- Don’t carry Hot Food or Hot Drinks and your baby at the same time

- Keep baby’s in a rear facing car seat until over 28 pounds or 24 months

Toddlers and above

- Never leave your child in a tub unsupervised

- Do not leave toys in the crib while your child is sleeping

- Keep hot food and drink away from edges of tables and counters
